Formula and thresholds
eGFR (ml/min/1.73 m²) = 0.413 × height (cm) / creatinine (mg/dl). µmol/l → mg/dl: divide by 88.4.
Clinical note
The equation was developed for ages 1–18 with an enzymatic, IDMS-traceable creatinine method. Under age 2, normal GFR is physiologically lower and KDIGO stages do not apply. In the first days of life, creatinine reflects the mother's level. In children with low muscle mass (spina bifida, prune belly), eGFR may overestimate kidney function; cystatin C based equations can be used when needed.
